About The Author

Get To Know Carla

Carla LaBella is a professor of psychology at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. She has gained a reputation for being an authority on positive psychology and is a sought-after speaker on this topic at the college and in her community. With over 20 years of experience teaching psychology and co-creating and teach­ing the ever-popular Positive Psychology course, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her work. Over the years, she has received awards for her teaching and communi­ty work in suicide prevention. Her greatest joys are seeing her students soar (hundreds of sto­ries over the years) and revelling in the many accomplishments of her boys: her husband, Demetrio, and her sons, Christian and Michael.

bendABILITY is a moment-by-moment choice of if and when to bend and exert energy and effort. It is the flexibility to lean toward effort when applied to endeavours that are meaningful to us and spark joy, and that we can influence or control, or to move toward setting limits or acceptance and surrender when what we confront is not meaningful to us and is outside our ability to influence or control. Our primary goal in life is to focus our energy and efforts on the first kind of endeavours and then learn to accept and surrender to the rest.
